Position Summary

The Lead UX Designer provides user-centered design consultation on customer projects related to web design, owns and drives client delivery, and provides direct management of a team of design consultants. The Lead UX Designer is responsible for designing creative, intuitive websites and user experiences that meet the needs of the end user, while ensuring business and marketing objectives, client goals and brand strategies are satisfied. Also works with individual consultants on their team on career and skills development, performance improvement, interviewing, and other direct management concerns. Additionally, the Lead UX Designer participates in the development of the Solution Area, process compliance, quality assurance, continuous improvement activities, proposal development, estimating and other sales support activities.


Responsibilities:

  • Drive client project delivery and provide leadership in an innovative and fast-paced environment
  • Provide Sales support including: solution definition, estimating, project planning, proposal development, and proposal presentations
  • Assist with UX practice development including: process definition, tools development, market offer development, capacity and capability development, and other delivery initiatives
  • Responsible for management, performance coaching, reviews and development plans for individual consultants
  • Foster a culture of ownership, investment, excellence, growth, and team achievement
  • Assist with resource planning and assignments, hiring and progressive discipline
  • Assist recruiting staff with developing and executing strategies to recruit, invest in and retain talented delivery staff
  • Maintain an average of 75% direct consulting responsibilities:
    • Conceptualize layout, design, and production of electronic materials, including: wireframes, interface design, site usability and testing, e-commerce websites, and multimedia products
    • Design and create original material using advanced elements of graphic design (i.e., color theory, typography, layout, interactivity, animation and modern trends)
    • Maintain open dialogue with customers and understand expectations
    • Communicate the status of projects to customers including total time estimate, time of completion, and outstanding issues
    • Accurately track time to projects on a daily basis
    • Prepare accurate and detailed project estimates when required
    • Collaboration with colleagues in a team environment


Key Skills:

  • Have a proven track record of demonstrating delivery expertise by leading a team of resources
  • Subject matter expertise in UX technologies and a strong understanding of the business value they provide; must have experience implementing these technologies in a business environment
  • Experience managing, developing and coaching resources
  • Knowledge of CSS, HTML, and Javascript
  • Advanced knowledge of creating wireframe layouts
  • Proficient in industry graphics software and web publishing programs
  • Strong understanding of interaction design
  • Must possess strong front-end markup skills
  • Ability to articulate creative concepts to team members and customers is necessary
  • Proven talent for creating fresh, unique and professional designs
  • Passionate about user experience and website usability
  • Offers new ideas and communicates effectively
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail


Education and Industry:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, Computer Science, New Media or related field; Master’s Degree is an added advantage
  • 5+ years of industry experience, 3+ in direct leadership
